Benjamin Franklin was a Federalist. Franklin represented Pennsylvania during the Constitutional Convention. This state holds Philadelphia, the city where the convention was held. Franklin was a very prominent social figure. He was a well published writer, inventor lawyer. His economic standing was very good, too. Benjamin was the President of Pennsylvania's executive council as well. He was a large part of the convention. He very much wanted everyone to sign the Constitution even if they were unhappy with parts of it. In his famous speech during the convention Benjamin Franklin states "I confess that I do not entirely approve of this Constitution at present; but, sir, I am not sure I shall never approve of it, for, having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged, by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise. This shows that he felt very strongly that everyone should sign the document. He himself did not get everythign he had hoped for. Franklin had wanted a single-chamber congress and a weak executive council, which were never fufilled.
